On May 8, 2017, Paul de Bijl gives a session on the Economics of Digital Platforms, as part of the module Digital Strategy and Transformation (Modular Executive MBA in Business & IT) at Nyenrode Business University. The session will deal with platform governance and regulation, illustrated by a case study on the smartwatch developed by MMT and the Swiss watch manufacturer Frederique Constant.

Threats of acquisitions in sectors with critical infrastructures easily lead to calls for government intervention. What should policy makers do in such cases? On February 21, 2017, the Dutch competition and consumer authority ACM organizes a joint lecture on digital platforms. Professor Ariel Ezrachi (Oxford) gives a talk based on his book Virtual Competition: The Promise and Perils of the Algorithm-Driven Economy. Acquisitions in sectors with critical infrastructures
On February 20, 2017, the Dutch newspaper Het Financieele Dagblad published an op-ed by Paul de Bijl and Professor Saskia Lavrijssen (Tilburg University) on a bill by the Minister of Economic Affairs to block acquisitions in sectors of critical importance for national security.

Public investments, contract theory and PPP
What is, based on economic insights, the optimal design and governance of public investments? In 2016, at the request of the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, Radicand Economics organized an expert session on public investments and produced a background document on this topic. The report (in Dutch) contains a survey of the economic literature on public investments, contract theory and public-private partnerships (PPP).
